World Smile Day

You know the saying, ‘A apple a day keeps the Dr away?’ Well a smile a day keeps the blues away. A smile reduces stress, encourages positivity and helps you live longer. ‘I’ll have what she’s having.’ Sounds good to me.😊

World Smile day has been an annual event since 1963 established by Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts whom created the smiley face 😊 The image went on to become the most recognisable symbol of good will and good cheer. World smile day falls annually on the first Friday of October.

I’m sure everyone has experienced a random smile from a stranger, I certainly have many times. At first I think to myself, ‘what are they smiling at?’ At the same time their smile instantly, without thought made me smile, it was contagious, leaving me with a warm feeling of joy and calm that followed me throughout my day.

Why do we question a smile? In todays world we are bombarded with negativity everywhere we turn, we are vigilant and weary of being scammed, taken advantage of. A smile from a random stranger triggers this fear. Only when that stranger continues to walk on by to continue their day do we allow ourselves to barks in the radiance and warmth of that free gift, a smile 😊

A smile is a free precious gift you can give to everyone you met or pass in your day. A smile is a gift that keeps on giving. Not only will it create so many positive emotions in the receiver, it will set your day up with positivity and you’ll find yourself walking with a skip in your step.

A smile is a universal language, no words needed, it’s the best form of sign language that can’t be mistaken for anything else. When we smile at each other all the cultural barriers disappear. We become one, we belong to one, we become brothers and sisters in Christ, the only one.

A smile a day keeps the blues away, it’s so much more rewarding than popping a pill. Try it, not just on World Smile Day, but try it everyday, make a challenge for yourself. Keep a diary, sit back and watch how your world will change, remembering every smile you give away might just be what that person needed to get them through their day. You will never know the difference you will make with your smile, but know you are making a difference.
Smile 😊
