When I get asked who is your favourite children’s author I can honestly say I only have two. Roalh Daph & Julia Donaldson. I love their writing style, creativity and wild imaginations and use of words.
I would take our 3 children to every community stage show that show cased these authors books.
The children, now adults remember them with great fondness.
I exposed my children to all things creative and cultural but I mainly read my stories to them. They absolutely loved listening to stories about themselves and would excitedly add new dialog here and there. Their faces would light up with pride, their cups were full of love. In turn I encouraged them to create their own stories anywhere we went; bush walks, camping, laying on the grass seeing what animals we could see in the clouds. This was such a precious time for me as their mother to watch them expand their vocabulary and ignite their imaginations.
To this day they love creative writing and reading. I know not to enter the room when Ella has a new book, that would be taking my own life in my hands. That sounds like a good story right there 😂
I have always encouraged them to write and read. Even though I wrote my children’s stories 12 years ago and only now they are getting published, my children reflect on these wonderful years of childhood innocence, imagination and magic. I once again witness that warm familiar smile when they read their stories.
