Exposing your Vulnerability

I think I can safely say that most writers feel very vulnerable when they allow their closest family member or the public to read their much loved, precious manuscript. I know from my personal experience that my stories have all been born out of an experienced or through personal memories, making my story a part of me.

Putting these experiences, emotions and memories on paper can be both healing and scary, making you feel extremely vulnerable.

Essentially you are exposing your soul to the world, inviting them to enter into your creative mind, and allowing your words to be judged. This can be a daunting experience. Thought's can race through your mind, which causes you to second guess your work. ‘What if no body likes it,’ it’s not going to sell.’ All of these negative thoughts can stop you from sharing your gift with others. Trepidation and fear creeps in, but don’t let it win, sharing your pages is always worth the risk.

There is no right or wrong way to write as these words and ideas belong to you. Your stories might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but that’s ok, because writing is about you, not everyone else. It’s a bonus if you find a few people that love your work and look forward to your next blog, article or book.

At the end of the day you just have to honour your God given gift, embrace it and set it free no matter the results.
