Are We There Yet?

After preparing and planning for weeks, three excited sisters race to the car, made themselves comfortable and chatted incessantly to each other about the awesome journey on which they were about to embark. The chatter consisted of what they were going to share together, games they were going to play and all the great memories that we are going to be made.

Dad was at the steering wheel, he knew exactly where our final destination was, and he was in control.
‘Are we there yet?’ The three sisters would repeatedly ask, ‘Are we there yet?’
We all live and plan for our holidays. We organise our lives around holidays and start counting down the days. We want them to come around quickly and last forever.

Is that how we feel about our final destination? Is the thought of your death filled with excitement, anticipation and planning, or is it filled with dread fear and denial or more likely you just not talk about it ?

There are similarities between holidays and our death. The first is we prepare for both events even if we don't consciously realise we're doing it. Secondly, some of us are excited and waiting in anticipation to reach both destinations. The obvious differences between both destinations are when we contemplate our death we don’t have control of the steering wheel. We have no idea when we are going to arrive or how we are going to get there. This can be a very scary thought.

I'm sure I speak for most of us when I say that we aren't excited or waiting in anticipation to get to our final destination. Fear of the unknown may consume our thoughts or it’s easier not to think about it at all, let alone plan it. This is a subject that people just don't want to talk about.

How do you think God wants us to feel about our final destination? I know he doesn't want us to be fearful or scared. God tells us we do not have to fear.

Going to heaven will be like going on a long awaited holiday filled with joy, excitement, beauty, peace, happiness. No pain, death, or tears, only love. We will finally experience perfect love.

God’s word is true. We have no reason to fear as this earthly life is preparing us for the best holiday will ever go on, and it will lead us to our real home with our Heavenly Father. We will be greeted with open arms. When this day finally comes we can run to Him and feel the embrace of His loving arms wrapped around us. I know it will be worth the wait.
Are we there yet?
